Independence day decoration ideas DIY mason jar centerpieces

How to Make the Cutest DIY 4th of July Party Decor

Although I love medicine, it is always nice to take a break to do a classic and easy DIY with my sister. Right now, we are celebrating the 4th of July with some amazing Independence Day decoration ideas. But this particular DIY can be used for any occasion or holiday!

This project is an extremely easy way to give any event, brunch, shower, or dinner party an adorable edge.

As you all know, I have very strict criteria for arts and crafts projects. Any project has to use easy-to-find materials and be even easier to make. This project is one of the easiest DIY projects I have done, and I love the way these centerpieces came out.

So let’s get started!mason jar 4th of July decor

The Supplies

  • Mason Jars
  • Burlap Ribbon
  • Decorative Ribbon
  • Mod Podge Glue
  • Painter’s Sponge
  • Rope
  • Finishing Touches (flowers, flags, signs, etc.)

All these supplies, including the Mason jars, can be found at any craft store. Most grocery stores even carry Mason jars and other craft supplies now! For my cyber savvy moms, these items can also be purchased online.crafting for independence day

The Steps

For our 4th of July party, we bought standard mason jars. But if you are planning on making centerpieces for a shower or an event, I love the idea of getting oversized jars.

After deciding what size jar to use, measure and cut the burlap ribbon so it covers at least half of the jar. Alison and I measured and covered about 80% of the jar.

Then, using a painter’s sponge, apply the glue to the burlap ribbon and place it on the jar.ribbon red white and blue craft

In my opinion, picking the accessory ribbon is the best part!

We obviously went with a red, white, and blue theme, but the possibilities truly are endless. There are so many amazing options! It is a great way to pull in an accent color for any party decor.

You can glue down the accessory ribbon, but tying it works just as well. Personally, I like tying better because it gives you the ability to reuse and repurpose the jars by switching out the ribbon for a different occasion.

BONUS TIP: When you cut the accessory ribbon, try to cut it on an angle. It will give it a more polished and professional look.crafting sisters

After you apply the accessory ribbon, tie a small rope at the top of the jar. The extra rope adds a rustic touch, but also finishes the piece for a more polished look. Then just add any finishing touches, like flowers or flags.

And there you have it! You now have a beautiful centerpiece, vase, cocktail mug, or utensil holder.

This project literally took 5 minutes to complete and can be used over and over for different occasions.
