TUMMY TROUBLES: CONSTIPATION IN KIDS
COMMON QUESTION #4
How do I know if my child’s belly pain is due to constipation, and what signs should I look out for?
DR. KATIE’S ANSWER
Whenever your child is having persistent abdominal pain, it’s important to have them evaluated by their pediatrician. Constipation can be tricky in the sense that your child can have a bowel movement every single day and yet not be adequately emptying their bowels. One sign of constipation is small, hard stool. Your child may also complain of frequent abdominal pain and pain when they use the restroom. Speak with your pediatrician before giving your child a stool softener, and always read the drug facts label before administering any OTC medication.
