Love Bug Craft – Easy Valentine’s Day DIY Project

With Valentine’s Day just around the corner, love really is in the air! And with these adorable love bug craft DIY Valentines, your kiddos will be feeling the love for sure.

We did this activity with the kids, and they had so much fun – they absolutely loved it!

Before they ate almost all the candy, we did manage to save a few to show you how we put these adorable love bug crafts together. It’s so much fun to get the kids involved and make this holiday about more than just celebrating the love between you and your significant other.

This is also a super cute gift your kids can give your teacher along with an adorable card. And it’s so simple and easy to do!

Ingredients Needed

  • Pipe Cleaners (red, pink, or white)
  • Markers, Glitter, and/or Paint
  • M&Ms Candy (Valentine’s edition works well with pink, red, and white candies) To be covid cautious this year…use individual m & m bags instead of the ziplock and loose m and m candies) Like this!
  • Ziploc Bags
  • Clothespins (we found some at our local Target that were already glittered)
  • Small Googly Eyes
  • Glue

Directions for Assembling Your Love Bug Craft

  1. Start by painting the clothespins or decorating them however you want. Let the kids have fun with this step – glitter can be a super fun addition! And messy… đŸ™‚
  2. Fill your Ziploc baggie 1/2 way with M&Ms candy and seal.
  3. Fold the zipper portion of the bag over so you can’t see it. Then twist the bag in the middle, and tie it off tight with a pipe cleaner.
  4. Twist the ends of the pipe cleaner to form your love bug antennae!
  5. Insert a clothespin right in the middle of your butterfly where the pipe cleaner is holding your bag together.
  6. Finally, decorate your love bug craft with a cute little face, or glue on some googly eyes!
  7. (these are fine to make for your own family but if you are making them as a gift be safe and use the individual M & M bags and NOT loose candies)

  1. Thank you ladies for sharing Valentine ideas! Your grandmother, Gene, and I were best of friends. I miss her dearly. Gene/Milt would be very proud of you. You all have a beautiful family. I bet the kids keep you busy. I will put this idea to use with my twin grandson’s. I enjoy reading your post. Regards to your Mom & aunt Jackie. God Bless
