MLS Laser Therapy

About 8 months ago I purchased a MLS Laser for my animal hospital and it has totally revolutionized pain management, inflammation, and wound healing for my patients.  I heard about the amazing results that both people and pets had from laser treatment and after doing extensive research and trials on some of my patients, I purchased the equipment. I am so happy we did! We are overwhelmed with positive responses from patients using this new form of treatment, so I wanted to take a moment to discuss what exactly it is, how its works, and why it’s used.

What is cold laser therapy?

Cold laser therapy, also known as low level laser therapy (LLLT) uses wavelengths of light to interact with tissue and is thought to help accelerate the body’s healing process.  The laser beam is moved over the skin so that the light energy (photons) penetrates the tissue where it interacts with various molecules (chromophores) and causes different biological effects which reduce pain related to inflammation.

What is MLS laser therapy used for?

Laser therapy is used to treat pain, inflammation, and accelerate wound healing. We use our laser on so many different conditions such as arthritis, tendonitis, post surgical swelling, inflamed ears, lick granulomas, hip dysplasia, intervertebral disc disease, gingivitis, sinusitis, lameness, and much more.

What are the benefits of MLS Laser therapy?

  • Reduces inflammation or swelling
  • Reduces pain
  • Repairs tissue and promotes cell growth
  • Improves blood flow
  • Increases metabolism
  • Stimulates trigger and acupuncture points
  • Reduces scar formation
  • Improves nerve function
  • Helps control the body’s immune response
  • Quickens wound healing

What is the frequency and timing?

The recommended treatment protocol for pain/arthritis and wound healing is 6 treatments in a 3 weeks period, followed by maintenance treatments (one treatment per month).  Every case is different and each pet receives his/or her own treatment plan, but these are the general guidelines.  The treatment involves holding the laser 8 inches from the affected site for anywhere from 1 to 3 minutes depending on the condition being treated.  The cold laser is completely non invasive and many of my patients enjoy the treatment.

What is the cost?

The price of one treatment is around $35.00 and we have packages of 6 treatments for $175.00.  The pricing is very affordable and helps my clients save money because they spend less on pain medications.

I have seen such great results with this form of treatment.  It reduces the amount of pain medications I prescribe for my patients, it’s completely non invasive (no needles or holding pets down), it is quick, and most importantly it is helping my patients feel better. I have clients showing me videos of their dogs jumping on the couch or getting into the back of their car after receiving treatment when the dogs haven’t done that in years.  And keep in mind, the more we talk to our clients about laser treatment, the more we are hearing about its use in human medicine with the same great results. It could help you if you are suffering from arthritis, inflammation or need wound care.

I hope this blog was helpful and gives you an alternative treatment idea for your furry family members. For more information of cold laser therapy please go to their website at MLS Laser Therapy.
