summer dresses for the fall

How to Take your Summer Dresses into Fall

Hi Everyone!  Taking your summer wardrobe and transitioning it into the fall season sounds difficult to do right? Well it’s not! Yes, most of your summer clothes are bright, bold and light weight. But if done correctly, there are definitely a few ways you can accomplish this! I have a few tips that have helped me adapt my clothing in to multiple seasons and I will show you the ways. This means you don’t have to hide away all those great summer dresses just yet.

1. The first thing I do when transitioning my wardrobe is look for dresses in my closet that are more neutral colored. Fall friendly colors I call them! It’s a lot easier to make a neutral dress look more appropriate for colder weather than something in a bright floral print. Pull aside dresses that are in these families: black, white, nude or brown. Really anything that isn’t overly bright or neon. Use your best judgement. You don’t want it to yell SUMMER.

2. Find a couple great jackets to pair your dresses with. Before going in to fall, I always say that you should find one black leather jacket and another jacket that is in the camel or brown family. That way you have two different type of jackets to throw over your outfits. I love this moto jacket from Urban Outfitters. I also love pairing an easy simple dress with a great neutral trench like this one from Asos.

3. An easy way to make your outfit scream fall is to invest in a few pairs of great booties. Since I am obsessed with all things fringe right now, I highly recommend these Sam Edelman booties and of course have them in a few colors. Plus they always look great when you throw them on with a cute swing dress. Just make sure if you are going bare leg and pairing your dress with a boot, that they are ankle booties. If you want to wear a dress with high knee boots that is okay too, but  you will need to wear them with opaque tights. You don’t want to come out looking like Julia Roberts from Pretty Woman. My sister Alison has been a victim of this look too many times. Sorry Al but its true! I finally showed her the ways but it took some work and a few laughs at her expense! These peep toe booties from Kristin Cavallari are perfect for transitioning into fall too. And with a high heel like this you can wear definitely rock this as an evening look.

4. Go out and buy a few pairs of opaque tights. I personally like the brand Hue but you can find these anywhere. I emphasize Opaque. If they are too sheer you may look like you are wearing Grandma’s hosiery.

I really hope this helps to take your summer wardrobe into fall. It will save you some money and you’ll look great too! Plus all these dresses in my collage are $100 or under which is a major plus.
